As the 2010 season gets reved up and rolling i had a great invite to film Cameron Hanes in the Backcountry of Nevada on a 10 day Mule Deer hunt.  I’ve personally hunted Nevada numerous times and enjoyed every minute of it, so my answer was absolutely i’ll do it.

However, this was in a unit in which i didn’t have any experience and didn’t know much about at all.  We ended up spending 9 nights and 10 days beating around the wilderness and was hands down the most physically demanding hunt i’ve ever been on.

Pretty hard to keep pace with a dude that runs 100 miles for fun, and i’m not embarrassed to say that he could have walked away from me at any given time.  It’s always good to hunt with people you can learn from.  I walked away from this experience a better hunter in the end forsure.  The majority of our water was gathered from the remainning snow packs and the not so prevelant springs that we came across.  I can say that i’ve never hunted with anyone who has the drive and mental toughness of him.  I believe his favorite saying on the trip was, ” I think we need to be up on that ridge:)” And up we’d go!

Anyway, great experience and i can say my legs are ready for elk season now. Just a few short weeks away.  I ended up loosing about 18lbs on the trip, probably mostly water weight, but feeling good none the less.

Even managed to take pretty good care of my skin at those high eleveations and slightly breezy conditions:)

Happy and safe hunting to all you guys! Good luck out there!

As school finishes up for the year, my times becomes a little more flexible and it’s time to get back to doing what i love to do! This year, we slated a pig trip for June down in California. The late spring made the hunting very tough but one pig was killed that was worth talking about. Kurt was able to take this great boar that was sporting a 4 inch tusk on one side and broke off at about 2.5 on the other. Hands down the largest wild pig i’ve seen down there. I want to say it was 243lbs without guts if i remember right. Hope everyone’s summer is going well and look forward to reading about some of your trips. We had a ball and it was a need vacation!

Well, Oregon Spring Bear season is off and rolling. It’s the only time of year i break out a gun to take care of business:) Had a couple buddies come up to hunt with me and we’ve had a blast. First up was Jeff Dunn, Jeff made a great shot on his bear and him and another buddy packed it out (I was giggling the entire time). Next, Kirk from California came up and he was looking to extend his Oreogn spring bear streak to 4 for 4. He ended up shooting a very nice bear on his second day here..We had about an hour left after he shot, went to check an area i had earlier seen a bear in and i ended up punching my tag as well. Best part about this season is my little girl has been involved in each of these hunts..

Well, it had been a year in the making and i finally got on a plane to Kansas to hunt whitetail for the first time ever. Had a great time, learned a ton about treestand hunting and even got lucky on a decent buck on the seventh day of the hunt. Looking forward to getting after the blacktails here starting this weekend. Good luck to all.kansas09 002

Well, after a bit of frustration due to learning a new area. I finally put all the pieces together and smacked another good Roosevelt. That makes 17 straight years of taking a bull over here. Been messing with a few bulls the last couple nights and after being winded and blowing a very good opportunity, i slipped into where i thought the bulls were bedding and happened to guess right. Ended up calling this guy in in the big timber and putting a good arrow in him. Not sure how well he was hit and other bulls roaming around i left him over night and found him not twenty yards from where i shot him the evening before. Happy hunting to everyone and its sure nice to get this tag filled…

Been a pretty decent season so far. Between buying a new house and getting married yesterday (youdon’t even have to say it) been pretty busy around here. I’ve managed to get out a few times though. Took my wifes cousin opening day and called in a great Roosie bull to 22 yds of him. Inexperience got the best of the situation and the bull is still wandering around. Next set up, a bear came to investigate the calls. 4yds was a little too close.

Last weekend, i headed over to call for a buddy that drew one of Oregons better tags. Ended up calling in 12 bulls in two days. He ended up sending an arrow through this guy..Great fun!! Back to the Brush Bulls now.
