Josh Boyd

From his home in the mountains of Montana, Josh Boyd has been bowhunting an array of western big game for over 25 years. With hunts ranging from belly-crawls after antelope on the wind-swept prairies to lung-busting climbs in the vertical chutes mountain goats call home, Josh is a very successful and well-rounded bowhunter. Persistence, hard work, an appetite for learning, and countless days afield are the foundation of his success.
As a part-time outdoor writer, Josh has been sharing his experiences and knowledge of western bowhunting with published articles in Bowhunter, Bow & Arrow Hunting, and Eastmans Bowhunting Journal. Photographs of him have regularly appeared in heavily circulated magazines such as Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, and North American Hunter.
Any western big game that offers a challenge will be hunted enthusiastically, but elk interest him the most. Josh has 18 public-land bulls to his credit in as many years, as well as numerous P&Y qualifying antelope, black bears, mule deer, and whitetail deer. When not hunting, Josh races downhill mountain bikes, trail runs, hikes and competes in 3D tournaments. Racing and shooting have taken him to all over Montana, Idaho, Washington, and British Columbia. He also enjoys a technical career with the U.S. Forest Service specializing in watershed and fisheries habitat restoration.
Along with Sitka Gear, Josh is member of the following Pro Staffs: G5 Outdoors, BowTech Archery, and Vaportrail Archery.
“While learning the ropes, I realized that skill, patience, and the capacity to endure fatigue and exposure, must be applied to become a successful bowhunter. These traits are common in every bowhunt, but are vital to my hunts out West. It is this hardship and toil combined with the beauty of the land that creates a memorable hunt; the highest form of success.”
